OpenEP: 10 successful years in the energy sector

In 2024, we expanded our customer base and achieved consistently high transaction volumes on all relevant trading platforms and sales of 10.4 TWh. Customer satisfaction also remains high. In the area of innovation, OpenEP introduced new products that strengthen the competitiveness of its customers. We would particularly like to highlight the development of an AI-based solution for optimising energy management.

A special highlight of the past financial year was our 10th anniversary celebration in Winterthur.

You can find an overview of the last fiscal year in the new Short Report 2023/24. You can find a detailed version here.

OpenEP: a special anniversary

Zurich, 17 March 2025 – Open Energy Platform AG (OpenEP) can look back on an extremely successful 2023/24 financial year, marked by growth, innovation and a special milestone: the company’s 10-year anniversary.

OpenEP remains a leader

Last year, OpenEP once again consolidated its position as a leading energy service provider in Switzerland. With a sales volume of 10.4 TWh, the company made a decisive contribution to the country’s energy supply by covering a third of Switzerland’s gas consumption. Expenditure remained stable despite increased requirements, such as those arising from the consistently high number of trading transactions and from the regulatory environment. It also succeeded in expanding its sales of services and making positive use of market movements for customers.

Successful for 10 years

One highlight of the anniversary year was the celebration at the Casinotheater Winterthur, where long-standing partners, employees and associates looked back over the past decade. In addition to a retrospective of the company’s founding and development, the evening also provided an inspiring glimpse of the future, including a lecture by futurologist Dr Pero Mićić.

Despite the tense geopolitical situation – including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East – OpenEP has been able to ensure an uninterrupted supply by working closely with authorities and international partners. The company was also involved in national legislative discussions and supported the implementation of a solidarity agreement with neighbouring countries such as Germany and Italy.

Developments for additional customer benefits with AI

In the area of innovation, OpenEP introduced new products that strengthen the competitiveness of its customers. One particular highlight was the development of an AI-based solution for optimising energy management. In addition, OpenEP successfully implemented findings from a comprehensive study on gas markets over the next ten years.

CEO Rudolf Summermatter at the 10-year anniversary

‘We are proud to have been a reliable partner for our customers for a decade and to have developed future-oriented solutions at the same time,’ said CEO Rudolf Summermatter. ‘Our employees, their commitment and expertise are the foundation of our success. Their continuing professional development and the creation of attractive working conditions are of central importance to us.’

Looking forward, OpenEP plans to expand its presence in existing markets and rapidly bring innovative services to the market. The company remains true to its mission: to ensure quality, efficiency and transparency for its customers.

Customer satisfaction and revenue reach new heights at OpenEP

Zurich, 15 March 2024 – The 2022/23 financial year proved very successful for the energy trading platform Open Energy Platform AG (OpenEP). Successfully meeting the challenges

The war in Ukraine continued to dominate the (energy) policy agenda in the last fiscal year. Its repercussions presented and continue to present multifaceted challenges to the energy sector and its companies – especially when it comes to ensuring the security of supply, which was again an issue this winter.

You can read about how OpenEP contributed to this in the Short Report 2022/23 or in greater detail in the Annual Report 2022/23.
