Introduction
As in previous years, 2025 was marked by geopolitical uncertainty. The energy business is becoming ever more complex. Fortunately, the supply situation in Europe and Switzerland remained stable. The year at a glance
IT security and AI tool
Cybersecurity is an immensely important and central concern for us. In this context, we implement the ICT minimum standard, the standard for information and communication technologies that the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) imposes on all operators of critical infrastructures. We are now using an AI tool for short-term trading, are planning to automate other applications with the help of AI and are striving to digitalise our customer interactions.
Risk management and compliance at its best
Whether market, credit, operational or regulatory risks, OpenEP monitors risks in several ways by means of adequate controlling and risk reduction measures. Compliance monitoring has also been overhauled.
Challenging political times
Gas procurement and management is a challenge at a time when geopolitical events such as the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East have created uncertainty. The global political situation has become more unstable due to various factors, including the change of power in Washington, DC.
Decarbonisation continues
The climate policy U-turn – which is visible globally – has slowed down efforts to decarbonise the economy and society in many places. However, OpenEP supports development in the opposite direction. For example, the proportion of renewable gases, known as e-gases, increased last year.
Healthy finances at OpenEP
This financial year, we were once again able to paint a stable and healthy financial picture. The company generated revenues of more than CHF 1 billion.
Strong quality awareness
For us, having a quality management system that complies with ISO 9001 is not merely for show: it is something that we aim to embody and refine. This contributes to the reliable and efficient provision of service. We were therefore able to pass the monitoring audit according to ISO 9001 without any problems this year, too.
Regulatory framework
OpenEP is keen to ensure that market regulations are kept to a minimum. We are also advocating for this in the recently presented draft Gas Supply Act. We are already preparing for the introduction of BATE (Federal Act on Supervision and Transparency in the Wholesale Energy Markets) on 1 January 2027.
Retaining and inspiring employees
Our employees play an important role in our success. We want to be able to rely on a proven team and to convince future employees of our commitment – which is why we launched the GasCrew employer branding project. Continuing education is also a top priority for us: 50% of our workforce completed a CAS in the reporting year.
